Venture Manager, Natural Capital

We need to stop depleting our planet and preserve natural capital!

Natural capital refers to the stock of renewable and non-renewable natural resources (such as air, water, land, forests, minerals, and biodiversity) that contribute to the production of goods and services.

At DEEP (Institute for Deep Tech Innovation), we are going to build an ambitious vertical that facilitates the next industrial revolution. This revolution will depend on the espousal of four central strategies: the conservation of resources through more effective manufacturing processes, the reuse of materials as found in natural systems, a change in values from quantity to quality, and investing in natural capital, or restoring and sustaining natural resources.

What do we mean by “vertical”? DEEP contributes to the entire deep tech value chain by training researchers to become entrepreneurs, building founding teams around strong IP, running the world’s most nerdy startup mentoring program and bringing together investors, founders, scientists and the entire deep tech ecosystem. However, we do not believe in generic efforts. That is why we tailor our activities to verticals, such as specific industries or technological fields, with immense impact, a strong deep tech angle and lots of entrepreneurial opportunities. After we have successfully launched our health vertical in 2022, we are now going to launch Natural Capital.

For this very vertical, we are looking for a:

Venture Manager, Natural Capital (m/f/x, 40h, to start as soon as possible)

As Venture Manger you will:

Be responsible for leading the operations of a startup mentoring program
Coordinate a team of venture managers with a hands-on mentality
Support the scouting and matching of entrepreneurs to spin-off projects and teams
Connect to the startup, innovation and research ecosystems related to natural capital
Support the MD with the strategic development (key areas of focus, partnerships) of DEEP’s new natural capital vertical
Be a strong, everyday ambassador for DEEP and all of its activities in the natural capital vertical

THE SCIENTIST

You are a person who is passionate about science, and you are inherently curious about the world and its workings.
You find joy in exploring and understanding new technologies and constantly seeking knowledge.
Your passion drives you to engage with top scientists, embracing challenges and valuing the pursuit of truth and understanding above all else.
You have a background in biotechnology, chemistry, material sciences, or similar.
You have engaged with the scientific community in the past.

THE ENTREPRENEUR

You are a person who is passionate about innovation, startups, technology commercialization, and creating new business.
You find joy in startup-like environments where “building” is more important than “managing”, “executing” beats “conceptualizing” and uncertainty might surround you.
You have an initial track record in building, investing in, or managing ventures related to natural capital, sustainability, or similar fields.
You are familiar with the operations and value propositions of startup accelerators, incubators, mentoring programs and alike.

Apart from this, you:

Like to work hard and are able to stay calm in stressful situations
Are driven by achievement
Have a strong service orientation and very good communication skills
Have managed complex stakeholder environments successfully before
Are well-organized, able to multi-task, and meet deadlines while paying attention to details
Are fluent in spoken and written English
