Senior Fundraiser, Strategic Partnerships

Philanthropy plays a critical role in enabling ESMT Berlin to maintain and build on its status as a world-class business school. Since its foundation, ESMT has been successful in raising donations from a broad range of donors, including alumni, non-alumni, foundations and corporates.  We are keen to further strengthen and expand our fundraising efforts.

Therefore, the development & alumni relations team is looking for a new colleague as
Senior Development Manager / Senior Fundraiser (full-time, 40 hours/week, to start as soon as possible)

Reporting to the Director of Development and Alumni Relations and working closely with members of the senior management, the post holder will manage the cultivation and solicitation efforts involving a portfolio of ESMT´s most generous donors and prospects. S/he will build and manage relationships for himself/herself and others at ESMT with this group of individuals, acting as liaison between the President´s office, academics and head of departments, and donors.

Your main tasks will be

  • To research, build, and manage a pool of prospective partners involving ESMT senior management and faculty
  • To solicit 6-7 figures contributions, and to support the President, head of departments, academic champions, and volunteers in this process
  • To draft, and review bespoke funding proposals for solicitation of major contributions
  • To be responsible for formulating and implementing stewardship strategies for all partners for whom you are the primary relationship manager
  • To ensure that a current and accurate record of all development strategies and activities, for which you are responsible, be maintained on the database (Salesforce)

Selection criteria

The work of the development and alumni relations team covers a wide range of activities and priorities. We are looking for a colleague with an impressive track record, extensive experience, and networks across the above mentioned target groups.

Experience and knowledge

  • Proven track record of very good personal contacts in the corporate and foundation environment
  • Significant fundraising experience, incl. proven success in securing 6-7 figure contributions
  • Experience of successfully managing a portfolio of major partners
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative funding formats related to a business school and its diverse partners
  • An interest in education, a good general level of education, including a degree or equivalent
Skills and abilities
  • Capability of representing ESMT at the highest levels of society across different cultural backgrounds
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure in a complex and demanding environment
  • Proficiency in German and English
Attitude
  • High level of professionalism, entrepreneurial mind-set, self-motivation, and proactive in taking initiative
  • A combination of personal sensitivity, creativity and tact that is needed when working with a diverse group of stakeholders
